On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed a stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits. The highlights are: * The tax credits that were previously effective for 2009, have been extended to 2010 as well. * The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30%. * The tax credits that were for a specific dollar amount (ex $300 for a CAC), have been converted to 30% of the cost. * The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1500 for the two years (20092010). However, some improvements such as geothermal heat pumps, solar water heaters, and solar panels are not subject to the $1,500 maximum. * The $200 cap on windows has been removed." **Click the logo to obtain additional information from Southern California Edison** Rebates & Programs - Heating & Cooling* ENERGY STAR® Qualified Room Air Conditioner Rebate Get $50 back! * Summer Discount Plan Get up to $200 back! * Whole House Fan Rebate Get $50 back! * Energy Efficient Evaporative Cooling Rebate Get up to $600 back! This is sometimes called de-manufacturing. You cannot receive a rebate unless you recycle your old appliance with a California-certified recycler. Here are some other reasons to recycle: Recycling saves energy. The materials in a recycled appliance can be re-manufactured into other products so less raw materials have to be used. Recycling is good for the environment. Components in older appliances like freon or hazardous materials like mercury have a harmful effect on the environment and people's health. Recycling removes them from the ecosystem. It's safer. Some old appliances can be extremely dangerous. Children have become trapped in abandoned refrigerators. Illegal dumping is an eyesore. Appliances thrown away on streets or vacant lots are ugly to look at and potentially lethal. | ||
