Repair, replacement, and new disposal installation.
Garbage Disposal Repair & Replacement in Santa Clarita
A working garbage disposal grinds up the food scraps that rinse off your plates, so they flow down the drain instead of sitting in the sink. When it jams, leaks, or stops turning on, cleanup gets harder fast.
A disposal that isn’t working right can also cause problems further down the line. Food that doesn’t get ground up collects in the drain and trap, where it breaks down, smells, and builds into clogs. Rowland Plumbing, Cooling, Heating & Electrical repairs, replaces, and installs garbage disposals across the Santa Clarita Valley and nearby communities.
New Garbage Disposal Installation
Adding a disposal to a sink that doesn’t have one is a straightforward upgrade for most kitchens. It needs a power source under the sink, the right drain setup, and a unit sized for how your household cooks. We’ll make sure the outlet or hardwired connection is safe and that the disposal drains properly into the existing line, and we’ll connect it to your dishwasher if you have one.
If your home is on a septic system, which is common on larger properties in Acton and Agua Dulce, we’ll talk through whether a disposal makes sense and which models handle septic best. Either way, we’ll help you choose a unit that fits your sink, your budget, and how much you use it.
Same-Day Garbage Disposal Repair
Garbage disposals get asked to handle more than they were built for. Potato peels, pasta, rice, coffee grounds, eggshells, fibrous vegetables, and grease are behind most of the jams and clogs we see. Some of those foods wrap around the grinding plate, and others swell or harden in the drain.
During business hours, we can usually have a plumber at your door within 60 minutes. Our plumbers carry the most common parts, so most repairs get done in one visit. We’ll also let you know what’s safe to put down the disposal so the problem doesn’t come back.
If your disposal fails outside business hours, our phones are answered 24/7, and we’ll help you with the next steps until a plumber can come out. For backups that affect more than the sink, see our emergency plumbing service.
Is It Time for Garbage Disposal Replacement?
Most disposals last around 8 to 15 years, depending on the model and how often they’re used. If yours is leaking from the body, keeps tripping its reset button, or has a motor that hums but won’t spin even after a jam is cleared, replacement usually costs less than continued repairs. A newer unit can also run quieter and grind more thoroughly. We’ll remove the old disposal, install the new one, and test for leaks before we leave.
What Comes With Every Rowland Visit
A Technician Within the Hour
Most daytime calls get someone to your door in about 60 minutes, and the quick response doesn't cost extra.
One Price for the Whole Job
We quote the job, not the clock. The number you approve is the number you pay, however long the work takes.
Our Own People, Every Time
Every technician is a background-checked, drug-tested Rowland employee who trains weekly. Shoe covers go on at the door, and we clean up before we go.
Tips for a Jammed Garbage Disposal
A disposal is one of the handiest tools in your kitchen, but like any appliance with a motor, it needs a little care. Running cold water while it’s on and sticking to soft food scraps will help it last longer.
If yours jams, here’s what you can safely try:
- Turn the disposal off and unplug it or shut off its breaker before doing anything else.
- Never put your hand inside. Use tongs or pliers to remove anything you can see.
- Insert a hex key into the socket on the bottom of the unit and work it back and forth to free the grinding plate.
- Press the red reset button on the bottom, restore power, and test it with the water running.
If it still won’t run, leaks from the unit, or trips the reset again right away, it’s time to call a plumber.
What Does Garbage Disposal Repair Cost?
Disposal repairs are usually among the quicker kitchen plumbing jobs, but the cost depends on what’s wrong. A jam or a loose drain connection is a small fix, while a failed motor or a cracked housing usually means replacement.
That’s why every job starts with a diagnosis. The $89 dispatch fee covers the visit, and it’s credited toward the repair if you go ahead.
From there, you’ll get one price for the whole job. If replacing the unit makes more sense than repairing it, we’ll show you both prices so you can compare.
Nothing gets added once the work starts, and most repairs and replacements are done in a single visit.
