New systems for spaces without ducts, and fixes for the ones already in place.
Mini-Splits Installed, Serviced & Fixed Across Santa Clarita
Bonus rooms, ADUs, and older homes without ductwork are hard to keep comfortable with central air. A ductless mini-split heats and cools each space on its own, with no ducts required.
Rowland Plumbing, Cooling, Heating & Electrical has served the Santa Clarita Valley since 1987. As a Lennox Premier Dealer, we install single-zone and multi-zone systems and repair mini-splits from every major brand, with the price upfront before any work starts.
Mini-Split Work We Handle Around Santa Clarita
- New single-zone systems for a bedroom, addition, garage conversion, or ADU
- Multi-zone systems for homes without existing ductwork
- Replacing an aging mini-split with a newer inverter model
- Units blowing warm air in cooling mode, or cold air in heating mode
- Water dripping or pooling under the indoor unit
- Error codes flashing on the remote or wall controller
- Ice on the refrigerant lines or indoor coil
- Grinding, clicking, or rattling from the outdoor unit
- A system that runs nonstop and never reaches the set temperature
When a Mini-Split Is the Smarter Choice for Your Space
A mini-split isn’t the answer for every home, but it’s hard to beat in the right situation. These are the ones we see most often:
- The space has no ducts. Running new ductwork into an addition, a converted garage, or an older home means opening walls and ceilings. A mini-split only needs a small hole for the line set and a spot on the wall.
- One room fights the rest of the house. Upstairs bedrooms and rooms with west-facing windows often run hot even when the central system is working fine. A dedicated unit lets that room have its own thermostat. Leaky ducts can also be the reason one room runs hot, so we'll check that before recommending a new system.
- You don't want to cool empty rooms. Multi-zone systems let you run only the rooms you're using, which is useful in homes where a few rooms sit empty most of the day.
- You want heating and cooling in one unit. Mini-splits are heat pumps, so the same system that cools in August keeps the room warm on cold mornings in December.
If your home already has ductwork in good shape and you want even temperatures everywhere, central AC is often the better fit. We’ll tell you which one makes sense after we see the space.
What's Usually Behind a Mini-Split Breakdown
Low Refrigerant Means a Leak
Mini-splits don't use up refrigerant. When the charge is low, it's escaping somewhere, and topping it off without finding the leak just delays the next service call. Refrigerant work also requires EPA certification, so it's a job for a licensed technician.
Dirty Filters and Coils
Indoor unit filters clog faster than most people expect. Restricted airflow cuts cooling, can freeze the coil, and makes the compressor work harder than it should.
A Clogged Condensate Line
Indoor units pull moisture out of the air and drain it away through a small line. When that line clogs, water backs up and drips down the wall, or a safety switch shuts the unit off entirely. Clearing it is usually quick once we find the blockage.
Electrical and Control Board Faults
A tripped breaker, a loose connection at the outdoor disconnect, or a failed control board can keep a unit from turning on or responding to the remote. Error codes help, but we confirm the cause with testing before replacing parts.

Mini-Split Questions, Answered
What Santa Clarita Homeowners Ask About Ductless Systems
How much does it cost to install a ductless mini-split in Santa Clarita?
It depends on how many rooms you’re conditioning, the size of each unit, how far the line set has to run, and whether the electrical panel needs a new circuit. A single-zone system for one room costs far less than a multi-zone setup for a whole house. We give you the full price in writing before any work starts, and financing is available.
Do mini-splits keep up with California summer heat?
Yes, when they’re sized for the space. Inverter compressors adjust their speed instead of cycling on and off, so they hold a steady temperature on 100-degree afternoons. Sizing is the key part. An undersized unit will run nonstop, and an oversized one will short-cycle and leave the room clammy.
Why is my mini-split leaking water inside the house?
Most indoor leaks come from a clogged condensate drain line or a condensate pump that has stopped working. Less often, the unit wasn't mounted level, so water collects on the wrong side of the drain pan. A frozen coil that's thawing can also drip. All of these are repairable once the cause is confirmed.
What should I check before calling for mini-split repair?
Start with the basics:
- Make sure the breaker hasn’t tripped.
- Check that the outdoor disconnect switch is on.
- Confirm the remote is set to the right mode with fresh batteries.
- If airflow feels weak, clean the indoor filter.
If the unit still isn’t working after that, the problem is inside the system and needs a technician. The $89 dispatch fee covers the diagnosis and is credited toward the repair if you go ahead.
How often does a ductless mini-split need maintenance?
Rinse the indoor filters every month or two during heavy use, and have a technician service the system once a year. A professional visit covers the coils, the drain line, the refrigerant charge, and the electrical connections. Rowland Deluxe members get a cooling and a heating tune-up every year as part of their membership.
